Lithuania’s July Market Review

Overall, the market looked negative in July compared to the same period last year, with a decrease of -5%. Almost all sectors showed negative market figures in July.

The MDA sector did not have such a good month in July compared to last year, especially in freestanding groups. Cookers recorded the biggest drop in units sold with -26%, followed by coolers with -22%, freezers -7% and washing machines -7%. In terms of sales value, only two categories recorded negative results – cookers with -22% and coolers with -5%. The biggest growth was recorded by tumble dryers with +51% and dishwashers with +21%.

The SDA sector has not changed drastically compared to recent months; it continues to decline steadily. Hot beverage makers and vacuum cleaners continue to be the main cause of the decline, and demand for these categories has almost come to a complete standstill. Only shavers and the dental care category saw growth, but these categories will not change the entire sector.

The TV sector is no exception in July compared to the rest of the year. Sales units fell to -13% and sales value fell to -14%. This negative trend is expected to continue through the end of the year.

July was not the best month for the SMP sector in terms of units sold at -7%, but sales value was up 13%. The result is not special compared to the previous months, but it is believed that the SMP sector will perform the best this year.

The IT sector has not had such a poor result since March. Units sold fell -20% compared to last year. The biggest declines were in media tablets (-34%) and monitors (-21%). Only printers saw growth of +15%. The sales value increased only for notebooks by 16% and for printers by 29%. Hopefully, this will change with the start of the school season.
